Niki Jessup
Niki Jessup’s practice explores the relationship between the body and the object, with particular attention to skin, its traces and singularities, and to the imperfections that arise from both the material and the hand. Touch plays a central role in her creative process: each gesture shapes the material and leaves its mark, particularly in her work with leather.
With a background in shoemaking and leatherwork, Jessup draws on traditional techniques while experimenting with different ways of transforming leather. Her practice includes footwear, objects and sculptural forms, often incorporating offcuts and leftover materials. She holds a Master’s degree in Footwear Design from Cordwainers, London College of Fashion (UAL, UK, 2016), and has exhibited her work in Canada and internationally, including at Révélations at the Grand Palais in Paris, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Valade Family Gallery in Detroit, FashionClash in Maastricht, and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
