Why Trump doesn't eat tofu: patriachy on the plate

It’s no surprise to anyone that Donald Trump is not vegan. In a society where eating meat is synonymous with masculinity, it’s hard to imagine the American president, the ultimate embodiment of patriarchy, enjoying a tofu-based dish.

Toxic masculinity, carnism… what if the two were connected? Whether through language, advertising, or social conventions, we justify the exploitation of animals in much the same way that violence against women is made invisible. In this talk, Suzanne Zaccour explores how, in the face of these systems of domination, these struggles intersect. A more just world is possible, and it starts with what we put on our plates. Feminism, veganism… same fight? ✊🌱

Suzanne Zaccour is a women’s rights lawyer, educator, and feminist speaker. She is the author of La fabrique du viol and Pourquoi Trump ne mange pas de tofu, among other works. She holds a doctorate in law from the University of Oxford and focuses her research on combating violence against women.
