About The Performance

Music, Mayhem—and Proof That Almost Anything Can Be an Instrument

What happens when you give a Juno Award-winning musician and comedian a pile of everyday objects and permission to get a little weird? You get Sounds Crazy with Al Simmons!

Long before saxophones, trombones, and guitars existed, somebody had to discover that twanging a string, blowing across a hollow tube, or banging two things together could make a pretty interesting sound. In Sounds Crazy, Al Simmons takes that same curiosity and runs with it, turning found objects, homemade inventions, and even things headed for the landfill into musical instruments.

It's part music, part science, part comedy, and completely Al Simmons. Expect wonderfully wacky inventions, unexpected sounds, plenty of audience laughter, and a whole new appreciation for the musical possibilities hiding in the stuff around us.

Why Your Kid (and You) Need to Be There

Music is hiding everywhere — Al shows how everyday objects can become instruments using many of the same basic principles behind the real instruments we know and love.

Learning disguised as absolute silliness — Sound, vibration, pitch, instrument design, experimentation... there's a surprising amount of science and music packed into all that hilarious nonsense. Don't tell the kids.

It might inspire some creating at home — Sounds Crazy encourages kids to experiment, invent, reuse, and look at ordinary objects differently. Fair warning: your recycling bin may never be safe again.

He's seriously funny—and seriously talented — Al Simmons is a Juno Award winner whose unique combination of music, comedy, props, and wonderfully off-the-wall inventions has entertained audiences at theatres and festivals around the world.

Made for kids, but definitely not just for kids — Al's humour can be wonderfully silly one minute and incredibly clever the next. This is an all-ages show, with plenty for little ones, older kids, parents, grandparents, and anyone who appreciates a good dose of creative chaos.
