Founded in 2018 by author and director Philippe Boutin, Empire Panique's mission is to create spectacular and daring theatrical events designed to stimulate collective creativity and revive faith in the power of theater.
In 2022, the company presented its first large-scale production, The Rise of the BlingBling – La Genèse, at Usine C. This mystical pop work stands out for its unique signature style, where theater, dance, pantomime, puppetry, and martial arts intertwine to create a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience.
In 2025, with support from the National Creation Fund, Empire Panique completed the second part of this diptych, entitled La Plus belle histoire jamais contée (The Most Beautiful Story Ever Told). The entire work received a very warm welcome at its grand premiere at Usine C (Montreal), the National Arts Centre (Ottawa), and Le Diamant, as part of the Carrefour international de théâtre (Quebec City), in May and June 2025.
At the same time, Empire Panique is developing, in partnership with the Montreal Botanical Garden, unifying youth shows such as Tous les monstres ont disparu! (All the Monsters Have Disappeared!) (2019–2021) and Frisson l’Écureuil et la course aux bonbons (Frisson the Squirrel and the Candy Race) (2022–2023), which attract nearly 10,000 children each year.
Empire Panique is co-directed by Philippe Boutin and Marilise Aubry.
