I enjoy exploring the creative possibilities of clay, so most of my pottery is one of a kind. My work includes both functional and sculptural pieces. I make colorful mugs, bowls, and serving dishes as well as decorative vessels.
The functional pots are decorated with textured clay surfaces, embossing, stencilling, carving, painting and layered glazes. High-fired stoneware makes each piece durable and dishwasher safe.
Larger pieces are constructed using slabs and coils. I occasionally create raku and barrel-fired works and I have begun making ornaments for the garden.
My latest work explores cuerda seca, a ceramic technique that uses resist lines to separate coloured glazes, creating bold designs with vibrant colour.
Although my pottery is made to be enjoyed and used, what I enjoy most is the process of discovery. That sense of exploration is what keeps me returning to the studio.
