WITH SONGS BY THE TRAGICALLY HIP

Book by Ahmed Moneka and Jesse LaVercombe Directed by Mary Francis Moore Orchestrations and Music Supervision by Bob Foster Choreography by Marc Kimelman

A new musical fueled by the music of The Tragically Hip

Set to the timeless music of The Tragically Hip, It’s a Good Life If You Don’t Weaken immerses audiences in a powerful original story. It captures the raw energy, heartfelt lyrics, and unmistakable spirit that have shaped Canada’s musical identity.

In 2002, an exiled journalist arrives in Canada searching for belonging and a place to call home. He meets Kate, the owner of a local music store, and an unexpected connection begins to reshape both their lives. As their paths intertwine, they are forced to confront distance, duty, and the courage it takes to build a life in a new country.

Featuring iconic songs by The Tragically Hip, including “Bobcaygeon,” “Ahead by a Century,” “New Orleans Is Sinking,” and “Courage.”

Don’t miss this new Canadian musical. You just might find your way home.

Produced by permission of David and Hannah Mirvish and Michael Rubinoff

Originally developed by and produced at Theatre Aquarius, Mary Francis Moore, Artistic Director; Kelly Straughan, Executive Director in partnership with Thousand Islands Playhouse, Brett Christopher, Managing Artistic Director, in 2026, co-produced with support from The National Arts Centre and its National Creation Fund with further development at The Creative School Chrysalis at Toronto Metropolitan University.

LISA'S NOTE

“This is the next great Canadian musical. Whether you are a Tragically Hip fan or not, the story stands beautifully on its own, while the music and lyrics bring an added depth and emotional resonance that make it something truly special.”
